Biography

Joe Solomon earned both master’s and doctoral degrees from Rice University and is a writer, a director, an independent filmmaker, and a composer.  His first novel—a supernatural thriller entitled The Darkness: Giger, Texas—reached #2 on Amazon's Best Seller list and is available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook. His second novel—The Light: Houston, Texas—reached #1 on Amazon's Best Seller list, was an Apple Books Best Seller, and was a Barnes and Noble Best Seller. His novel of the macabre, Astrodome: The Descent, will be released in 2024, followed by his Texas horror anthology There Go the Lights.   

An award-winning screenwriter, Joe has completed several screenplays and stage plays. He has also been very active in the independent film industry, directing four short films, one feature film, and six music videos. His screenplays have won Best Screenplay at the Mediterranean Film Festival (Cannes, France), been Official Selections at the Beverly Hills Film Festival and Toronto Films and Scripts Awards, been a Semi-Finalist been at the Flicker's Rhodes Island International Film Festival and San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition, a Finalist in the American Movie Awards and New York Screenplay Conctest, won the Final Draft Screenwriters Award, won the Screenwriting Showcase Award, reached the Second Round in The Sundance Feature Film Program, and been a Finalist in the Scriptapalooza Screenwriting Competition. 

His projects have been Official Selections in over 100  international film festivals and have won multiple awards, including Best Director (Honolulu Film Awards), Best Feature-Length Screenplay (Mediterranean Film Festival—Cannes), the Rising Star Award (Canada International Film Festival), the Maple Leaf Award (Canada International Film Festival), the Silver Remi Ward for Creative Excellence (WorldFest Houston International Film Festival), Best Music Video Award (Tokyo Shorts Film Festival), and more.
